What a VIN page shows
Every VIN gets one page. It shows what each source says and labels where it came from.
Decoded specifications
Make, model year, body, engine, drive and assembly plant, decoded from the VIN with the US government's NHTSA vPIC database.
Auction listings
Each Copart or IAAI listing we can find, kept separate: lot number, date, location, odometer, damage, title document and the sale result where the source confirms it.
Listing photos
Photos stay attached to the listing they came from, so you can see how the vehicle looked at each sale.
Vehicle insights
A comparison of the records: whether odometer readings rise over time, whether reported damage or title documents changed, and which details are missing.
How a lookup works
Enter the VIN
Copy it from the windshield plate or door label. The plate above checks the format and the check digit as you type.
We gather the records
If the VIN already has a page, it opens straight away. If not, AutoBimer decodes it and requests auction records, usually within a few seconds.
Read the page
Specifications, each auction listing with its photos, and a plain-language comparison of the records.
Guides
All guides- How to Decode a VIN: Position by PositionThe 17 characters split into three sections. Here is what each one tells you and what it does not.
- How to Find Copart Auction Photos by VINMatch the VIN, then the lot number and date. Photos belong to a listing, not to the car forever.
- What Does Primary Damage Mean on an Auction Listing? It is the main area of damage as categorised at check-in, not a measure of how bad or costly it is.
- How to Read an IAAI Auction RecordEach field answers a narrow question. Here is what the main ones mean and how far you can rely on them.
Questions
Where do I find my VIN?
On a plate at the base of the windshield on the driver's side, on the label in the driver's door jamb, and on the title and registration. All of them should match.
Is this a full vehicle history report?
No. AutoBimer shows decoded VIN data and US salvage auction listings. It does not include title history from every state, insurance claims or service records. The decoder limits guide explains what to check next.
Why is there no auction record for my VIN?
Most vehicles never go through a salvage auction, and the indexed data does not cover every sale. No record is not proof that a vehicle was never damaged.
Is AutoBimer part of Copart or IAAI?
No. AutoBimer is independent. It presents third-party records of public auction listings and links to the original photos.
Can a VIN page be corrected or removed?
Yes. Use "Report incorrect data" on the VIN page or the contact form. AutoBimer never publishes owner names or addresses.
