About AutoBimer

One clear page per VIN, built from records you can trace back to their source.

What AutoBimer does

AutoBimer brings together two kinds of information about a vehicle: what its VIN encodes, decoded with the US government's NHTSA vPIC database, and records of US salvage auction listings at Copart and IAAI, supplied by a third-party data provider. Each VIN gets one permanent page that shows both, labels where every value came from and compares the records with each other.

What it does not do

AutoBimer does not inspect vehicles, does not have access to insurance claims, service records or state title databases, and does not sell auction vehicles. An AutoBimer page is not a full vehicle history report. When information is missing, the page says so rather than filling the gap.

How we handle accuracy

  • Values are shown as the source reported them. Conflicts between sources are displayed side by side, not resolved by guesswork.
  • "Sold price" appears only when the source confirms a completed sale.
  • Pages with too little reliable information are kept out of search engines until they improve.
  • Anyone can report an error from the VIN page; reports are reviewed and pages corrected or removed.

More detail is on the data sources and methodology page.
