How to Find Copart Auction Photos by VIN
Match the VIN, then the lot number and date. Photos belong to a listing, not to the car forever.
Updated
Copart photographs vehicles when they arrive at a yard and publishes those images with the lot listing. If a car went through a Copart sale, its listing photos are often the clearest record of the damage it had at that moment. This guide explains how to find them reliably and how to read them.
Step by step
- Get the full 17-character VIN. Partial VINs match the wrong vehicles. Copy it from the windshield plate or door label rather than from an advert.
- Search the VIN. Enter it on the Copart VIN check page. AutoBimer looks it up in indexed auction data and shows every listing it finds, each with its own photos.
- Match the lot number and date. A vehicle can be sold at Copart more than once. Each sale has a separate lot number and a separate photo set. Check you are looking at the sale that matters to you.
- Compare with the car in front of you. Colour, wheels, interior and visible damage should line up with the photos for the most recent listing.
Why a VIN can have several photo sets
Insurance write-offs are frequently sold, repaired and sold again. Some vehicles are listed, fail to sell and are relisted with a new lot number. AutoBimer keeps each listing separate and attaches photos only to the listing they came from, so you can see how the car looked at each point.
What photos show and what they miss
- They show the exterior and interior as photographed at check-in, often including the odometer and VIN plate.
- They rarely show structural, frame or suspension damage, flood residue in hidden areas, or mechanical condition.
- They are not an inspection. Use them alongside an in-person inspection by a mechanic you trust.
When no photos are found
No result usually means the VIN was not in the indexed data, the listing was not photographed, or the VIN was mistyped. Check the characters (VINs never contain I, O or Q) and try again. A missing auction record does not mean the vehicle was never damaged; it only means no listing was found.
About ownership of the photos
Listing photos are taken by the auction or seller. AutoBimer displays links to the images as they appear in the indexed listing data and does not claim ownership of them. AutoBimer is independent and is not affiliated with Copart.
