BMW VIN check and auction history
BMW VINs start with a World Manufacturer Identifier that tells you where the car was built. WBA is used for BMW passenger cars from Germany and other non-US plants, WBS for many BMW M models, and 5UX for X-series SUVs built at BMW's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Older US-built models also used 4US.
Positions 4 to 7 hold BMW's type code, which identifies the specific model and engine variant. Because US-market BMWs follow North American rules, the 9th character is a real check digit, and the 10th character gives the model year.
BMWs appear regularly at US salvage auctions, often with front-end or side damage and, for SUVs, hail. Open any VIN below to see its listings in date order, with photos and odometer readings.
